This is the English web-site of the Internet Users Network (IUN) in Tokyo.
IUN is an Internet user group, as the name indicates, focusing on the end users interest and promote horizontal networking and promote maximum freedom of the use of the Net.
We became the "AtLarge Structure (ALS)" of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), the global body who manages the Domain Name, IP address and related Internet resources, and as such we are the member of the AP-RALO (Asia Pacific Regional AtLarge Organizations) of ICANN.
AtLarge has a long history at ICANN, and now using its Working wiki for sharing information and ideas.

1. Name
The name of this group shall be “Internet Users
Network (hereinafter called “IUN”)
The objective of IUN is as follows:
1) To promote horizontal networking among Internet
users and to collaborate for social contributions
2) To
promote maximum freedom of the use of the Net for the users.
3. Basic Principles
IUN’s activities will
respect the following principles.
1) To be the group for the end users of the
Internet
2) Anyone who agrees with the objective of IUN can become
the member and participate openly
3) We shall be autonomous, distributed and
collaborative
4) We value voluntarism; anyone can create a basic
unit of the activity and these units will form networks
5) We value community of neighborhoods, professions
and interests.
6) We will collaborate with technical community,
industry and government (local and central) which support the Net.
7) We act globally, transcending the national
boundaries
4. Activities
IUN shall
promote the following activities
1) Social works
A) Communication among users
B) Policy study and recommendations
C) Social contributions
D) Publicity campaigns
2) Global collaboration and networking
A) Participate in global governance of
Internet to reflect end users opinions and interests
B) Engage in the cooperation and promotion
of the development of the Internet in the developing parts of the world
5. Membership
Any individual
who agrees with the objective of the network can become the members of IUN.
6. Membership fee
The
membership fee of IUN is free of charge
7. Donation
Any individual or organization who
supports the objectives of IUN can contribute donations for the operation of
IUN.
1) IUN shall have Steering committee with up to
five members
2) Steering committee members shall be elected from
the Members
3) IUN shall have Representative elected among the
steering committee members
4) The Representative person will represent IUN in
its activities
5) The Steering committee shall determine its
action plan and budget and execute them
6) The decision making of IUN shall be done by the
Representative and Steering committee members in collaboration. The Steering
committee members will carefully listen to the opinions of the members online
and offline to reflect in the decisions. The Representative will incorporate
the opinions of the members and Steering committee before making the decisions
1) The terms of the Steering committee and the Representative is one
year, maximum of three terms.
10. Secretariat
1) The Secretariat of IUN is located in the Institute for InfoSocionomics, Kumon Center, Tama University in Tokyo.
2) The Representative can
appoint the Secretary General and the staff
3) The Secretary General shall
work with the Representative to provide secretarial services
The fiscal year shall be from April 1 to March 31 with the exception
of its first year which will start from June 1.
12. Amending the Bylaws
These bylaws
can be amended by the Steering committee
13. Other matters of business
Any other matters of business not defined in the bylaws shall be
determined by the consensus of the Steering committee
