How to Get the Best From Your Marketing

May 20th, 2011

Marketing can sometimes seem like a daunting task because of all the information currently on the internet, and the fact that everybody has a different opinion on what is the best way to market your business.

Here are some simple tips to get you started:

- Research your competition

Researching your competitors can be of great use because you can find out what keywords they are targeting and how many users they generate. There are hundreds of free search engine optimisation tools and most of them are easy to use. The first thing you need to do is write a list of keywords you would like to target, and then search them and find out how many people are using these words in their search, and where are they searching from. Google has a brilliant keyword analysis tool that you can use to find this information.

- Don’t be afraid to fail

Nobody knows everything, which means that there are still undiscovered routes to market, and the only way to find them? trial and error. The first sign that your marketing is not effective is you haven’t made a recognisable mistake. Without making mistakes you can’t learn and eventually make progress in your efforts. It’s normally a good idea to write these things down as in the future you might come up against something similar, and by going back and looking at the steps you took to resolve the old issue you gain valuable insight into new challenges that you will face in your day-to-day marketing attempts.

- Content is key

You can have as many backlinks as you like but it won’t matter if there’s nothing on your website to read. The same goes for search engine optimisation, marketing and general advertising. Now all you need to do is create content. Simple right? not so much. Again the principle is the same, if you just write loads and loads of ‘stuff’ then you might as well have no written anything at all. » Read more: How to Get the Best From Your Marketing
